Someone did a lot of work for the Gallup Dance Team (former Pom-Poms) Tournament as the field drew a year high of 25, 4-Man Teams. Most of the organizational credit should go to Christie Tiley, but she had numerous parents helping every day, including on tournament date.
By "popular demand", play was in "eightsomes", something that to be honest, many people do not like because rounds tend to last 6 1/2 hours or even more. However, several new rules were put in effect and the result was a round of 5 1/2 hours or less. The first group finished in 5 hours and 10 minutes, and the last one in exactly 5 1/2 hours! Not bad for eightsomes! Above left, Austin Wallace "peeks" at Alex Baca's putt for eagle on #3
Congratulations to Robert Rosales who made a double eagle on hole #3, yes, you did not read incorrectly, DOUBLE EAGLE! The team used his tee shot, and of course, the second shot! The following are the winners:
GROSS: 1st (57) Tom Chee, Travis Chee, Calvin Begay & Micahel Sanchez; 2nd (59) Austin Wallace, Nolan Wallace, Alex Baca & Roger Morris; 3rd (59) Danny Radcliff, Randy Radcliff, Randy Slaughter & David Haynes. NET: 1st (53.4) Kenny Bean, Ronnie Pinto, Albert Hale & Bennett Johnson; 2nd (53.5) Olsen Arviso, Orville Arviso, Ray Moore & Clarence Peterson; 3rd (53.6) Jonathan Romero, Albert Lucero, Michael Lucero & Eric Palmer.
The previous day, on Saturday, the Firefighters had their own event with 39 players and the results are as follows:

In addition to pro-shop gift certificates, the winnig team received a very nice, gold inlaid, belt buckle (displayed in here)... Congratulations to all!!!

ReplyDeleteYour tee boxes are the most challenging I have ever seen, you can get a downhill lie, a hook lie, a slice lie, from tall grass, short, muddy or no grass at all... and everything in between!! Only in Gallup.
and you managed to give us 20 handicappers a way to feel like beginners! See I lost 4 balls in 9 holes... no, I am not a very straight hitter, or long, the thing is: I lost one ball on #2, straight down the middle of the 2" rough.. I mean fairway; I lost one on the next hole by missing my 3rd shot just to the right of the green, in the weeds; I lost one on #6, on my second shot, when the ball trickled in the weeds by the 100 yd marker, and I lost one more on #7, again just right of the cart path.. you guessed it, in the weeds! Don't cut the weeds... GET RID OF THEM!!
No wonder why many of us go to Grants... and someone had told me the course was in better shape! for what? For goats?
