JOHN DALY MUST RECONSIDER HIS DIRECTION FOR THE GOOD OF THE GAME... AND HIMSELF

Many of us "old" golfers, were around when John Daly came as a ninth alternate to win the 1991 PGA Championship at Crooked Stick in Indiana. He was an immediate star. He had used "Squeeky", Nick Price's caddy who had to withdraw that year. He won a second major at St. Andrews in 1995. That year, after an improbable birdie on the last hole by Constantino Rocca, it took Daly four more holes to wrap it up. At one point during that round, John Daly was two back and came back to win. He needs to do it again.... in life. While the golf world has Severiano Ballesteros fighting for his life -word is that after the third operation, now he is able to carry on a conversation-, we have John Daly trying to destroy his own, whether he knows it or not. Recently, Daly was last arrested at a Hooters Bar (his sponsor) for drinking too much and causing... well, what many alcoholics do, big nuisance problems. There is a lot from his life that has been published, his generosity among others, but, a lot of what has been published in the fron pages has been for the negatives and not the positives (we rather see him smiling after winning than frowning in an orange suit). His life seems to be hanging on one single shot late in the round: this one is on the downslope, from high rough, to a tight pin position and over a water hazard. The shot requires all the talent, touch, luck, concentration and perseverance; all of which Daly had, but has been losing little by little. How much he has left, no one knows; and no one knows if he can somehow make it grow or allow it to disappear in a permanent way. It is sad when people go on that path, few come back; It is said that with support, it is easier (as everything else). Come on John, wake up! You've done a lot of good for others, but you could do more good if everyone in your corner sees you hoist a major trophy again!
