Two weeks ago, the "Old Timers" were a little disappointed: there were only three (incomplete at that) teams signed up for the May 31st tournament..., by Tuesday, the 27 of May, there were 9 teams and organizers were pretty happy, but did not expect too many more players; but, with many phone calls, hard work and the help of Mary Ann Armijo (Clear Channel) and Sammy Chioda (Millenium Media), the word got out and the tournament ended up with the largest field so far in 2008... 93 players! Even people who usually do not play in events, like Carlos De la Torre (pictured above with Nani Gonzales after Nani obviously made the right read for him), ended up playing and sharing a good time and lunch afterwards. The tournament recognized 6 winning teams, three in gross and three in net: GROSS: 1st (59) Marcus Tulley, Mike Thompson, Tom Chee & Travis Chee; 2nd (60) Pete Urias, Paul Dimas, Robert Dimas & Paul Acosta; 3rd (61) Mike Silva, Ruben Sanchez, Kenny Bean & Andrew Blanco. NET: 1st (56.4) Brad Hoover, Rick Saucedo, Ron Saucedo & Butch Lucero; 2nd (56.8) Ron Molina, Chuck Stewart, Frank Chiapetti & Leslie Chiapetti; 3rd (57.0) Dave Hill, Norman Nomoto, Goyo Paredes & Randy Henry. The tournament was a true success in every way and promised to be back next year. Congratulations to Dr. Lawrence Andrade, brother Paul, Art Burola, Tommy Gonzales, Johnny and Ivone Espinosa, Dave Torres, Gloria Lopez, Kiki Alonzo, Chuy Vargas and all the "Old Timers" group that made this tournament what they called "an unexpected success!"
