The AC Houston Lumber Scramble, this year benefiting the Gallup Police Athletic League, returned with added excitement and prizes. Here, Jackie McKinney, founder and chairman of the tournament, poses with Eric Lovato and Mike Montano, both of whom qualified for one shot at $100,000 for a Hole in One on #11. That's right!, after the event was over, two players were to return to Hole #11 for an attempt at a hole in one from 165 yards, and if anyone was successful, they would receive a cash award of $100,000.00! The two participants were drawn out of 9 qualifiers who had hit their tee shot inside 8 feet. Also, earlier, Ernie Abeita had been selected to attempt a 5o foot putt for $2,500 cash... his downhill putt stopped 5 feet short! Come on Ernie... not short!!! The tournament, as in the past, had a $20,000 cash prize for any hole in one on #11 from 154 yards, and the closest one had been Eric Lovato with a shot to 20". Following the event and the added contests, there were drawings for numerous prizes, so many, that most of the 144 participants (which included people from as far as South Carolina!) got something, from golf clubs to food vouchers, to jackets and golf balls, and nothing less than $30.00 value! Now that's some support from many individuals and businesses. Thirty six teams participated in the event, the winners were: GROSS: 1st (59) Bud Knight, Scott Knight, Ed Rodriguez & Mario Rodriguez; 2nd (59) Gary Leloff, Angelo Pomponi, Dave Hill & Dave Haynes; 3rd (59) Marcus Tulley, Calvin Begay, Mike Thompson & Nelson Leonard; 4th (60) Simon Paredes, Goyo Paredes, Dale Lovato, Eric Lovato; 5th (60) Lance Allgood, Kerri Allgood, Randy Slaughter & Bob Weekes. NET: 1st (53.0) Bill Bader, Frank Rupich, Larry Rowe & Curtis Toledo; 2nd (53.2) Dave Lambert, james Miller, Phill Allen & Phil Lambert; 3rd (53.3) Tom Nells, Eric Palmer, Jonathan Romero & Victor Garcia; 4th (53.5) Shirley Wilson, Marx Powell, Brandon Powell & Heath Wilhelm; 5th (54.1) Ronnie Pinto, Bernie Dominguez & Darrell Dodson.
Leading all of the numerous volunteers, were Lt. Ron Silversmith, Jeannel Griego (President of the Athletic League), Bill Nechero and of course, Jackie McKinney, both of whom are members of the board. EVERYONE IS WAITING FOR NEXT YEAR!!

I think the city needs to step in and help Alex out. The greens are in great shape, but the fairways are just terrible. Who cares about the green if you can't find your ball to get there. Does the city think this is the British open with the rough the way it is. There should be cuts of rough. Even when you hit the shot into the fairway you can loose your ball. The way I see it, the city should buy us all a dozen balls so we can afford to play there!!!!!!!!!!!
