"COCA COLA TOURNAMENT SERIES" WRAPPED UP OUR TOURNAMENT SEASON

Saturday, October 6th, we had our last tournament. It was a "wrap up" of our Wednesday Night 9-Hole Tournaments for which Coca Cola of Gallup graciously provided drinks. Since days are shorter now, we had a "See You Next Year Steak Cook Out 9-Hole Tournament" on a Saturday, before noon and thirteen of the most avid participants (in four teams: One 4-Man Team and three 3-Man Scramble Teams) took part in it.
All teams ended up shooting a net 36, with Mike Silva, Calvin Begay & Nani Gonzales (PHOTO WILL FOLLOW) winning the tie-breaker as they had the lowest gross score of all the four teams. The other teams were: Richard Madrid, Nelson Leonard & Bill Sensabaugh; Paul Chavez, Andrew Dominguez & Robert Padilla; and Mike Thompson, Steven Josselyn (Coca Cola), Jun Kwon & Anthony Silva.
There were about 30 different golfers in all who participated in these little 9-Hole tournaments at one time or another, with a high of 24 in one day. Hopefully this Tournament Series will become more popular and particpated in during the 2008 season. Thank you to all the golfers for your attendance and to Coca Cola of Gallup for your support and dedication to all golf programs in Gallup. SEE YOU IN 2008!

  1. Guys:

Send "thank you" notes to the hospital! Had it not been for them, we'd still be playing in the weeds! The golf course looks great. See what a little extra effort (that was not shown earlier) does for the place? Now, lets not take a step backwards!

  2. OK Guys:

Season is almost over and we want to know what the winter plans are, so please publish them!

Here are some suggestions that we know make too much sense, so probably won't be followed:

    1) If the weather is nice, keep the course open, even if a few hours of the day, so that we, "the public" can have a place of recreation without having to drive too far to support the economy of other cities

    2) Now that everyone knows what the maintenance department is capable of, don't slack off and make it almost look that some problems were created in purpose so that we would say: "wow, look how good this guy is"

    3) Don't reinvent the wheel: use the winter to sharpen, paint and work on equipment, unlike last year where nothing was done and all the excuses were that we did not have equipment with which to maintain the course. While you are at it, on nice days, build some tee boxes (make the course longer where you can) and repair the area in front of #12 green (it has been ugly for three seasons)

    4) Have a "Turkey Shoot" like you used to have in the 90's, this "global warning" thing gives us better weather than we had then and would make more sense now.

    5) While the prairie dogs are sleeping, kill the little creatures... or they will kill whatever is left of our golf course..

and last but not least, is the golf committee... No, I will not ask. I will let them come out with something very positive on their own!
