NO TOURNAMENTS LAST WEEKEND

Photographed here is part of the large Tanner Family, our friendly neighbors overlooking hole #8, looking south: Brooks, Susanna, Dawson, Savanna, Emma, Sabrina and Ben. I was coming to the course on Monday afternoon when I saw this good looking bunch of kids selling home-made car deodorant and brownies, guess what I bought? Uh, Uh, I bought the car deodorants first, and then I was told brownies were coming... I could not resist! (I have a rule: always buy something from kids who sell in front of their homes). Anyway, the reason these kids were selling goodies is of a higher call and not for personal business: it is because they are trying to raise funds for cousin Garrett who last year broke his neck in a gymnastic accident and is now doing expensive therapy. Garrett is the son of Mitch Tanner, a former Gallup resident and golfer. Our prayers go for a Garrett's full recovery!
So we did not have tournaments last weekend, what do we report on? Lets start with Marqui Armstrong, who has been playing several PGA Junior tournaments around New Mexico, where her scores are improving and where she has had already several rounds in the high 30's (no 18 holes 70's yet, but this is a great start!!). On Wednesday last week, she played a round with former "Gallupian" Anya Alvarez and they had a lot of fun at the University of New Mexico's Championship Course while beating on me, I hope they had as much fun as they did. Besides, I got a much needed lesson! Thanks to George Trujeque, UNM South; Russ Moore, NM Tech G.C. and Mike Putnam, Las Campanas for their generous hospitality while on their courses, all of which were in great shape and very fun to play!
Since we did not have events last weekend, we will make up for that this coming weekend with two events; The Firefighters will host their 3-Man Scramble on Saturday and the GHS Dance Team will host their 4-Man Scramble on Sunday. You can expect at least 60 players in each of these events.
And then of course, we have the August and September events coming up, most notably, the RMCH Charity Invitational which was moved to October 3rd. The "kick-off" party will be on this Thursday evening (July 17) at the Elks. The chairman this year is Brett Newberry and as in the last several years, Elaine Bobo is heading all the organization and coordination of the executive committee decisions.
For now, we will leave by inviting you to participate in a free rules clinic on Thursday, July 24th at 5:30 p.m.; refreshments will be served. More details at the pro-shop.
