GALLUP GOLFERS "OUTFOX" COYOTES IN "COYOTE SHUFFLE"...

I know, I know. And I am sorry, but this blog was started to talk about Gallup golfers, so as an update, while I still can, I can't help but brag a little about some of our friends who went to Grants and to see if they could tame a few coyotes... and, they did! In a late year display of putting and accurate iron shots, Gary Leloff & David Haynes paired up to win the "Coyote Shuffle" at beautiful Coyote del Malpais in Grants, NM. Several other Gallup teams entered this popular event that is played over 36 holes: 9 on Saturday and 27 on Sunday.
The unique format calls for 9 holes "cross country" on Saturday, nine regular holes on Saturday and the contestants finish with 18 Par-3 Holes...
this is where accurate irons shots become a priority over 300 yard drives: Gary, known for his consistent putting prowess and his iron shots "when he says he is on" (many of us think he is always "on" with the irons), and David, known for his length with the driver and low shots that bore into the wind, combined their skills over the two days of competition and won by one, 139-140, over two coyote pairs: Carlos Moncada & Orlando Romero and Emerson Vallo & Phil Vallo.
Coming in 4th (143) were Mayor Joe Murietta & Leon Gonzales. Gallup's pair of Tommy Pino & Andrew Dominguez were in 5th place at 144. Among other Gallup golfers who participated were Scott Hamilton & Bill Terrazas.
THIS, TO MY KNOWLEGE, WAS A FIRST, AS USUALLY LOCAL KNOWLEGE PREVAILS...
COME ON!! DON'T ANYONE PACK THEIR CLUBS YET!
