Summer is a period for golf competition, and that includes many of our local golfers going to different tournaments around the state, so several "traveling" golfers have been active the last few weeks, among them, we had Gabe Saucedo who along with Gary Leloff, were the only Gallup representatives in the Socorro Springs Open (former Hilton Open) where Gabe won his flight in this tough and competitive event and Gary came in 7th place, and "still in the money". Gabe will have enough to buy a set of irons... first place per flight was $750.00!! Gary had enough for a dozen balls and both had a blast. Gabe participated in seven straight days of golf, which started on a Sunday with the Sr. Pro-Am, continued with the Monday-Tuesday Sr. Open; played the regular Open Pro-Am on Wednesday and the main event Thursday-Saturday. Don't ask him how tired he was after that!!
In the mean time, four ladies represented us in a women's event in Santa Ana Pueblo G.C., and none of the four finished lower than second in their flight! The ladies were, Shirley Wilson, Mary Batson, Shirley Frazier (all three are pictured above let) and Betty Armstrong (not pictured here, but it's OK, she was pictured in the previous blog). Shirley Wilson won her flight, and the rest of the ladies were second in their respective flights.
...The "tour" continued to Grants last weekend, where the Ray Daugherty Memorial was being played and where at least 20 teams of 2 from Gallup participated. Defending champions Paul Dimas and Paul Acosta did not have last year's "spark" and the putts did not drop, so they were out of the money. Three teams with Gallup golfers did well: Randy Begay & Emmett Francis, took 1st in their flight, Ernie Abeita & Rex Good and Gary Leloff & David Haynes took 3rd place in their respective flights.
Congratulations to all!!
EXTREMELY HAPPY TO HEAR THAT TIGER WOODS' KNEE SURGERY WENT WELL AND HIS DOCTORS HOPE TO HAVE HIM IN PRIME "GOOD AS EVER" SHAPE FOR THE NEXT SEASON. IT SEEMS THAT WATCHING GOLF LACKS LUSTER AND THE USUAL EXCITEMENT WHEN TIGER IS NOT IN THE FIELD. HOWEVER, IT WILL SAVE MY FREIND "REX GOOD" AND ALL THE OTHER TIGER HATERS ALOT OF MONEY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS SEASON, AS THEY ALWAYS BET THE FIELD AGAINST TIGER. WHAT A TESTAMONY TO A GREAT PLAYER WHEN YOU CAN BET THE FIELD AGAINST HIM AND LOSE 10 TIMES IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS.
ReplyDeleteGIVE IT UP TIGER HATERS, HE'S THE BEST THAT HAS EVER PLAYED THE GAME AND HE'S NOT DONE YET............
WE HAVE GOLF TOURNAMENTS FOR THE CHEERLEADERS AND THE POM POM GIRLS AND THE GALLUP FOOTBALL BOOSTERS ETC. ETC. ETC. WHY IS IT THAT WE DO NOT HAVE A "GOLF TOURNAMENT" FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE "GALLUP HIGH SCHOOL GOLF TEAM". I WOULD LIKE TO GET AN ANNUAL EVENT STARTED FOR THE BENEFIT OF THOS KIDS WHO TAKE THE TIME TO TRY TO LEARN THIS WONDERFUL GAME. IF ANYONE ELSE THINKS THAT IS A GOOD IDEA ESPECIALLY OTHER BUSINESSMEN IN THE COMMUNITY, PLEASE GIVE ME A CALL AT 722-4321 OR 870-1505. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU.
Hey!
ReplyDeleteI liked the Walt Disney movie on golf, but, why are the Rules of Golf still in "Alex's Favorites"?
Is that a hint?
