HARD WORK FROM CHEERLEADERS BOOSTERS PAYS OFF

On Sunday the 17th, we had the biggest tournament yet this season, as the Cheerleaders Scramble field was topped with 27 Teams (Note: one team was "ladies only", more on that below). It was also the most contested in the gross category as 4 teams tied with a 61, not the lowest score ever in a scramble, but very good given the very windy conditions of Sunday where gusts of up to 40 m.p.h. were not uncommon and a day in which the wind blew at a consistent 20 m.p.h most of the day. They say that playing bad golf is better than a good day at the office (not sure of that myself), so even those participants who did not come "in the money" seemed to have enjoyed the event, look at Buddy Cadell in the left and Brooke Martinez on the right, who was part of the "all female" team that invited Toby Tafoya as their "Helping Guide and Golf Instructor" for the day. A very special mention and thanks to Liz Garcia, who headed a very enthusiastic and hard working group of parents that ended ended up with over 200 sponsors!... not bad for her first tournament ever! The Tournament recognized 6 teams, 3 in gross and 3 in net. Here are the final results:
GROSS (The following results are after the tie breaker since all teams had a 61): 1st - Ronnie Pinto, Albert Hale, A.J. Jefferson & George Arviso; 2nd - Gary Leloff, David Haynes, Jason Armstrong & Johnny Thomas; 3rd - Ernie Abeita, Marco Abeita, Alfred Abeita & Marqui Armstrong 4th Paul Acosta, Marc Guerrero, Eric Lovato & Brian Dominguez.
NET: (56.9) Richard Leza, Ray Ramirez, Robert Rosales & Brian Maldonado; (57.3) Nani Gonzales, Robert Padilla, Alan Lewis & Eddy Marquez; (57.6) Olsen Arviso, Orville Arviso, Scott Armstrong & Clarence Peterson.
As it is usual, a few people who are not avid golfers choose to participate in a fund raising event of their choice, this time it was four brave ladies: Theresa Diaz, Brooke Martinez, Francis Andablo & Michelle Esquivel. A special thanks to all four for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm... and we all hope you did not give Toby Tafoya a hard time!!
Several other players were recognized with smaller prizes.... Thanks to all participants, sponsors and to all "professional volunteers" who made this possible!

  1. I AM VERY GLAD THE "CHEERLEADER'S" TOURNAMENT WENT WELL. I HOPE THEY MADE A BUNCH OF MONEY.

THERE IS MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THE GOLF COURSE. WE ALL PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 8/20/08. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME SINCE I BEGAN PLAYING THAT I WITTNESSED STANDING WATER ON THE #7 GREEN. I MUST APPOLOGIZE FOR THE NEXT FEW COMMENTS, SHOULD THEY OFFEND ANYONE. THIS GOLF COURSE IS BECOMING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE! THERE IS LITTLE, IF ANY, VISIBLE IMPROVEMENT IN THE PLAYABILITY OF THE VENUE. IN FACT THE POT HOLES AND STANDING WATER IS GETTING WORSE AND THE CROSSING PATH ON NUMBER 18 IS, AT BEST, DANGEROUS. GREENS ARE DYING, AND WITH FEW EXCEPTIONS ARE NEARLY UN-PUTTABLE. WE AS PLAYERS HAVE MADE LOCAL RULES IN ORDER TO MOVE THE BALL AROUND THE GREENS IN ORDER TO HAVE A PUTTABLE PATH TO THE HOLE. WEEDS ARE INFESTING THE FAIRWAYS NOW AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO EFFORT TO ERADICATE THEM. MOWING THEM DOES'NT FIX THE PROBLEM. COMPLAINTS FROM THE GOLFERS FALL ON DEAF EARS, BECAUSE THEY APPEARENTLY DON'T FIT INTO THE 5 OR 7 YEAR PLAN THAT NO-ONE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO PUBLISH OR PRODUCE FOR REVEIW. REMEMBER, MR. WEEKES HAS BEEN HERE 2 YEARS NOW. I, FOR ONE, CANNOT WAIT FOR "YEAR ONE" OF THE PLAN AND THE BEGINNING OF THE INCREDIBLE TURN AROUND.

I REALLY DON'T CARE IF THIS BLOG GETS PUBLISHED AS I AM ONLY HAPPY TO VENT. HOWEVER, I WOULD LIKE TO BE SURE THAT MR. WEEKS AND MR. ALVAREZ BOTH GET TO SEE IT AND KNOW HOW THE "SILENT MAJORITY" REALLY FEELS. TO WHOM IS MR. WEEKES ACCOUNTABLE AND EXACTLY WHAT IS THAT PERSON'S VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR GOLF COURSE?

THERE IS NO INSULT INTENDED HERE TO ANYONE'S INTELLIGENCE, EXPERIENCE OR CAPABILITY. THE FACT REMAINS THAT COMMON SENSE AND A SIMPLE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME WOULD INDICATE TO ANYONE THAT THINGS ARE NOT "RIGHT" HERE.

THERE SEEMS TO BE A HIDDEN AGENDA HERE OF WHICH THE MAJORITY OF US ARE NOT AWARE. AND IF THAT IS NOT THE CASE, THEN THE WOOL HAS BEEN PULLED OVER THE EYES OF THE PUBLIC LONG ENOUGH.

THE GREENS NEED TO BE REPAIRED BY DIGGING OUT THE BARE PATCHES AND RE-SODDING OR SEEDING WHILE THERE IS STILL SOME GROWING SEASON LEFT. THE REST OF THE GREENS NEED TO BE AERATED, SANDED AND OVERSEEDED. THE TEE BOXES NEED TO BE REPAIRED, LEVELED AND SODDED OR SEEDED. THE WEEDS NEED TO BE DEALT WITH. THE CROSSING CART PATHS NEED TO BE ELIMINATED AND SODDED OR SEEDED OR FILLED AND GRADED. I HATE TO USE THE WORDS "FRENCH DRAINS" BUT DRAINAGE TRENCHES NEED TO BE DUG AND FILLED WITH CRUSHED STONE IN THE FAIRWAYS AND ROUGHS WHERE STANDING WATER IS PRESENT IN ORDER TO CARRY THAT WATER AWAY. ROPE OFF THE AREAS AROUND THE CROSSING PATHS SO THAT GOLFERS WILL STOP DRIVING OVER THE FAIRWAYS AND MAKING THE PATHS LARGER AND LARGER EVERY WEEK. TRY TO SAVE WHAT LITTLE FAIRWAYS WE HAVE LEFT. AS FOR NUMBER 18......MAJOR WORK NEEDS TO BE DONE AS THE CONDITION OF THAT HOLE IS INDESCRIBABLE........ MOWING NEEDS TO OCCUR MORE THAN ONCE A WEEK AND GOLFERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO RUN INTO A MOWER ON EVERY HOLE. MAYBE ALL THESE THINGS COULD BE DONE TO JUST ONE HOLE AT A TIME.

WHEN WILL THE GOLFERS SEE SOME KIND OF IMPROVEMENT IN PLAYABILITY???????

STEPS SHOULD BE TAKEN IMMEDIATELY TO REQUIRE UPGRADES TO THE PLAYBILITY OF THE GOLF COURSE.

A FREIND OF MR. WEEKES TELLS ME EVERY DAY THAT "IT'S ALL WE'VE GOT"....... I BELEIVE THE TAX PAYERS AND GOLFERS WHO PAY FEES EVERY TIME THEY USE THE COURSE DESERVE MUCH MORE FOR THEIR MONEY.

SOME PEOPLE LOOK SAT THE TOURNAMENT ATTENDEES AND SAY THAT THERE WAS A GREAT TURN OUT AND ALL THE GOLFERS LIKED THE COURSE. IN FACT. THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE PLAYING IN THOSE TOURNAMENTS AND CHARITY EVENTS DO NOT PLAY REGULARLY AND DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE DETIORATION TAKING PLACE. ALL THEY SEE IS GREEN, DURING THE NRAINY SEASON WHICH WOULD MAKE ANYONE IN CHARGE LOOK LIKE A "HERO". BUT REMEMBER, THE WEEDS ARE GREENING UP TO. THEY ARE GETTING STRONGER AND SPREADING AND THE LONGER WE WAIT TO ERADICATE THEM THE TOUGHER IT WILL BE..........

HOW ABOOUT IT FOLKS, CAN WE QUIT PLAYING POLITICS AND COVERING OUR ASSES? LET'S GO TO WORK ON THE GOLF COURSE.!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I AM ANGRY AT THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE. THEY HAVE DECIDED TO REMOVE "MEN'S BASEBALL" AND "WOMEN'S SOFTBALL" FROM THE LIST OF OLYMPIC SPORTS. THIS IS AMAZING BECAUSE WE STILL HAVE "PING PONG" "BADMITTEN" "SINCRONIZED DIVING" AND "BMX INDOOR BYCYCLE RACING". IT IS UNDERSTANDIBLE THAT THE WORLD STILL PARTICIPATES IN "ARCHERY" AND "CANOE RACING" BECAUSE OF THE AINCHENT ORIGINS OF THOSE ACTIVITIES.

NOW WHAT ABOUT "GOLF" LET SOMEONE TELL ME THAT GOLF DOES NOT DESERVE CONSIDERATION. BUT WE WILL NEVER SEE GOLF IN THE OLYMPICS BEACAUSE THERE ARE NO JUDGES REQUIRED. ONLY THE PLAYERS ARE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE APPLICATION OF "THE FULES OF GOLF".

WHAT? A GAME IN WHICH THE PLAYERS SOLELY DETERMINE THE OUTCOME.............NO WAY!!!!!

  3. I agree with you that there are some sports that should not be in the Olympics, particularly indoor BMX Racing, and syncronized diving (particularly for men, who look pretty bad with the same "undies".. ok, swimming trunks).

Now, golf in the Olympics was already tried.... 1900 and 1904. The U.S. won 7 out of 9 medals awarded in those two Olympiads, which was pretty good considering that the Scotts were still the better players.

Now, if I was going to have golf in the Olympics.... well, I think I better write a full article on it; later this week!!
