RELAY FOR LIFE TOURNAMENT... GREAT END
The "Relay For Life" Tournament had a great end, even if with only 36 players. Great door prizes and items for raffle. Below, Kori Cash, from Grants, wearing a Native American Head Dress that was actually won by Betty Armstrong... he looks good, doesn't he?
Lucille Martinelli, Dale Dedrick, Bill Armstrong and Greg Plese did a fantastic job in getting prizes, getting golfers and helping during the event, which, like last year, had players play 9 holes before dark and 9 after dark.... long day at the golf course, we started at about 7:30 a.m. and ended at 12:30 a.m.... the next morning!
Dale Dedrick came with a fun way to have prizes given to the players, instead of paying 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th; he paid 1st, 4th, 7th & 12th. This of course makes the tournament a pure outing and fundraising event... no competition, JUST PURE FUN!
In the end, Lucille Martinelli, the heart of the event for so many years, will now pass the baton. There are several worthy people who would probably not mind taking over and leading the event into the second decade of the 2000's. Dale, Bill and Greg are first in line, and should they step up, they'll do a fine job.
These were the people who won the prizes: 1st (62) Bud Knight, Scott Knight & Shannon Tanner; 4th (68) Calvin Begay, Calvin Castillo & Marcus Tulley; 8th (70) Victor Landavazo, Jessica Landavazo & Thomas Martinez; 12th (79) Betty Armstrong, Jim Isbell & Karen Isbell. Missing out of the prizes, in second place were, with a 63, Mitch Murphy, Gilbert Ramirez and Sam Rashid.
NOTE OF GRATITUDE: As you all know, this was my last event ever as the Head Golf Professional of Gallup. I wouldn't have missed it, mainly because of the people involved, not just because it is still my job. For now, I do not have plans to write any more about golf, but I have a prepared statement of thank you to Gallup that I will publish before the end of the month, after which, THIS BLOG WILL THEN CLOSE. I hope someone takes the time to start a new one and serve you with as much fun as I did... I HAVE SO MANY MEMORIES, AND GREAT PICTURES, MANY OF WHICH WERE NEVER PUBLISHED (If you are interested and think I have some pictures of interest to you, drop me a note). Perhaps I will send some e-mails from time to time. I WANT TO SAY TO ALL OF YOU 36 PLAYERS: A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU FOR THE GIFT AND THE SIGNATURES ON THE PAINTING THAT WAS GIVEN TO ME. YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA HOW MUCH IT MEANT TO ME AND THE HIGH PLACE IT WILL HOLD IN MY MEMORIES.
