SLOW DAY DURING "GRAND OPENING # 2"
Even though it was a slow day, we had the chance to have a "Grand Opening" or, as other golfers chose to call it: "Appreciation Day". We had a good time reacquainting with old golfers. Great idea of our director, even if he was absent for the real fun: interacting with the people.
As usual, we had our regulars, those who do not stay away whether there is a Lions Rodeo or bad weather and all visitors received free lunch and soft drinks. I had a great time talking with different golfers, new and old, mostly talking about good memories.
I was talking to two customers when I saw this young kid go play with his dad. And I mean young! Saw them tee off on #1. After the dad teed off and bent over to pick up his tee, the boy walked forward and tapped him on the back as if saying, "Nice shot dad", then they went down to play a round together, walking, the 6 year old pulling a small pull cart.
There was no way to resist the urge to get my camera and go down to take a picture. I did not want to have them pose, and fortunately, I did not have to. As I drove down to catch up with them, they were already walking together, unaware that I would take their picture. Perhaps having a conversation, as it was evident that they did not need to be close: the boy's ball, in the fairway was short right, the dad's ball was in a totally different area.
It reminded me of when I was young -not as young as this boy-, walking 36 holes (18 on the short course and 18 on the championship course) every Sunday with my mom before being allowed at a busy course after 1:00 p.m. Sometimes, I was double blessed, I walked the 18 short holes with mom in the morning and 18 with my step dad in the afternoon. The times we had were priceless, and I am sure the same way with this man and son. It also reminded of my daughters and how I walked with them while playing golf and how much I enjoyed it when as little girls, they could hit a ball 50-70 yards in the air and turn to me as if asking, "well, aren't you going to say good shot?"
Wouldn't you want to see this "picture" more often? The family that golfs together, stays together! Hey, if you want to be part of something good, BRING A KID TO PLAY!!
